Territory icon named fourth best sunset in the world, according to new study
One of the world’s ‘most vivid sunsets’ is right in Australia’s – and the Territory’s – backyard, a new study has revealed. Find out where it is.
One of the world’s “most incredible places to enjoy the golden hour” is right in the Territory’s backyard, a new study has revealed.
Uluru has beaten out iconic worldwide landmarks such as the Taj Mahal and Uluwatu in Bali to make the top five in a study by travel insurance company AllClear which ranked the world’s best sunset spots.
“Five hundred million years old and full of iron minerals, the monolithic sandstone formation that is deeply loved by many actually looks like it changes colour at sunset,” the study said.
The Australian landmark was beaten out by the Grand Canyon, Hawaii’s Waikiki, and Cappadocia in Turkey – the number one sunset spot in the world, according to the study.
The locations were given a “sunset score”, with Uluru netting a score of 79.6 out of 100, a falling short to Cappadocia’s 86.1.
The score was decided via the location’s cloud cover, wind speed, precipitation, humidity, with Instagram hashtags also factored in as well.
AllClear spokeswoman Sarah Collision sad the study “provides some unique insights into the world’s most incredible places to enjoy the golden hour”.
“There are vivid sunsets to be found all over the world, providing an awesome light show above nature’s most spectacular landscapes,” she said.
