The Territory’s only Supercars driver Bryce Fullwood is geared up for his home return as the Darwin Supercars roll into town this week.

The 27-year-old at Brad Jones Racing had a difficult start to the 2025 season, but recent results including a podium in Tasmania point to improvement.

His speed was there again in Perth qualifying inside the top 10, but ran off the road putting him out of contention for a result.

Now it’s over to Darwin, his home track where he hopes the car’s pace continues.

“The start of the season was really tough, we just had a lot of little things go wrong that came down to bad luck and wasn’t really in my control,” Fullwood said.

“That put us a long way back in the championship but in the past few rounds we’ve found pretty good speed, a bit of direction and got the podium in Tasmania.

“Even then it wasn’t the cleanest of weekends for us, but the car was fast and we’re chipping away at results and starting to get where we want to be.

“We’re all running as close to the edge as possible, in Tasmania we ran the car as light as we could and if our numbers are out that could mean trouble.

“We had to save fuel in the second race, it coughed on the last corner so one more lap and it wouldn’t have gone, some would say perfect but it was a little close to the edge.”

Now, he’s returning home for the Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley, the hottest track on the circuit but one Fullwood has known his whole life.

“Everyone is going for the podium but if we can manage a top 10 that’s a good solid, achievable goal for us,” Fullwood said.

“Darwin is a tricky track and the hottest place that we race, we need a fast race car, deal with the tyre temperature and a little bit of luck to go our way.”

Darwin is home to the Indigenous Round, which Fullwood is proud gets to take place in a place where it would have the most significance.

It also gives him a chance to catch up with friends and family, but important to him is the chances to meet the next generation of kids interested in the sport and hopefully inspire them.

“It’s a special race weekend for me being the only Territorian in the field, I feel a lot of support from all the locals,” Fullwood said.

“We only live five minutes from the racetrack, I spent a lot of time at Hidden Valley and have done a lot of laps in the local categories as a junior there, so I know it well.

“Seeing the current juniors is so important, because when I was growing up I didn’t think it was possible to be a Supercars driver if you’re from Darwin.

“It was like trying to be an astronaut, I just didn’t consider it at a young age, it came down to a lot of support and hard work that I was able to live out my dream.

“It goes to show that it doesn’t matter where you come from, if you have enough determination you can make anything happen.”
