‘Zest for life’: Woman found dead inside Pick Ave, Mount Gambier home identified as Rachel Moresi
The woman found dead inside a Mount Gambier home has been identified, as neighbours mourn their loving, caring friend.
A woman found dead inside a Mount Gambier unit on Wednesday has been identified as Rachel Moresi.
Friends of Ms Moresi, who lived on her own, have remembered her as a “loving person”, as they arrived at the property on Thursday to collect her pet cats.
Police are investigating her death, which is still a mystery but declined to release further details, however, The Advertiser understands that Ms Moresi’s body was covered with burnt items.
Speaking to The Advertiser, friends described Ms Moresi as a loving and caring woman who had “a real zest for life”.
“She was very just out there and loud. That was Rachel,” Nicole said.
Friend Justine said she last spoke to Ms Moresi just before 9pm on Tuesday night.
“She was actually in a good mood,” she said.
“The last thing we said to each other the night before was, we both yawned, and we both said, it’s time for a nap, and we’ll see each other tomorrow.”
Justine said she never expected that would be the last time she would speak to her friend.
Friends said Ms Moresi had lived at the Pick Ave flat for three years and had a carer.
They told The Advertiser Ms Moresi had a tough life but no matter what happened “she still bounced back”.
Major Crime Investigators remained at the property, continuing their investigation on Thursday, with officers searching rubbish bins around the unit.
Neighbours described the woman as a “really beautiful person” who loved her family and her cats.
“She loved her family and her friends with a passion,” one local said. She added her death was a “loss for us”.
7NEWS reported Ms Moresi’s body was discovered by her carer when she arrived at the unit on Wednesday before calling police.
Speaking to 7NEWS, a friend of the woman said her death was unexpected.
“I heard the worker (carer) crying, and she was hysterical when she found her,” the friend said. “Even she misses her dearly.
“I didn’t expect to wake up to her gone. I thought there would be many, many more years for all of us with her.”
Another friend spoke to 7NEWS outside, holding the woman’s pet cat, saying he had promised to take care of the pet if anything were to happen to the woman.
“(She was a) bubbly, loving person who lived for her cats,” he said.
“I promised to take care of him if something were to happen, so I’m keeping that promise.”
Police were called to the woman’s unit on Pick Ave just after 1pm on Wednesday and have been working to determine the cause of her death since.
Upon arrival, a toxic smell halted police from entering the home and the Metropolitan Fire Service attended to investigate.
Detectives from the Major Crime Investigation Branch and Forensic Response officers attended the scene Wednesday night to assist Mount Gambier police.
Police continue to conduct further investigations to determine the cause of death. No charges have been laid.
