Woman, 25, charged with murder after another woman fatally stabbed at Elizabeth East
Neighbours say they heard horrific screams from a unit block where a mother was fatally stabbed overnight – with another woman charged with murder.
Neighbours have described a “gut-wrenching scream” after an ugly altercation between two women resulted in one been fatally stabbed on Thursday night in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Locals living in the row of Housing Trust units on Bronte Cres in Elizabeth East reported the incident to emergency services about 6.40pm.
Upon arrival, police found a 28-year-old woman from Para Hills West with a critical stab wound in the chest.
She was taken to hospital where she later died.
Neighbour Kerry Greening told The Advertiser she made the triple-0 call fearing for her own safety and others.
“It was like a gut-wrenching scream,” Ms Greening said. “It was like a bellowing, horrific scream.
“I immediately knew something was horribly wrong because it didn’t resemble anything you’d normally hear during a party … that’s why I immediately called the police.
“Thank God the police got here quick – they were here in less than three minutes.”
Ms Greening said she often felt unsafe in her local street because of frequent police presence and common arguments within neighbouring homes.
Another neighbour, Issach Sube, said he was acquainted with the victim, who he said was a mother of two named Michelle.
“She’s a good girl … she’s a very outgoing person, very genuine and a very nice person,” Mr Sube said. “She’s got family and she’s got two young children.”
Mr Sube said he was shocked by her death.
According to Mr Sube, the two women – who do not live on Bronte Cres – often came to visit their mutual friend on the street.
Police arrested a 25-year-old woman from Davoren Park at the scene.
She has been charged with murder, was refused police bail and will appear in the Elizabeth Magistrates Court on Friday.
Police say the incident was not random and the two women were known to each other but ask anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
It was the second stabbing in Adelaide’s northern suburbs on the same day, after a 17-year-old boy allegedly stabbed an elderly man in an unrelated incident at nearby Surrey Downs, about 9.45am.
Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed either incident to call Crime Stoppers.
