Troy and Tracy Smith reunited after Bali drug bust
The high-profile “fixer” hired by a South Australian dad who narrowly avoided jail after being caught with meth in Bali has provided an update into the man’s marriage.
A South Australian father busted with meth in Bali has been reunited with his wife after completing a six-month stint in a drug rehab centre.
Former Port Lincoln man, Troy Smith left Indonesia on Thursday, having completed six-months in the Anargya Sober House, an addiction treatment centre in Denpasar.
Australian security expert John McLeod – who assisted Mr Smith and his family with their case – told The Advertiser Mr Smith was now with his wife Tracy, who he married in December last year.
He would not comment on where the couple was, but said Mr Smith had “emerged as a changed, better man” following his ordeal.
“Troy’s completion of the rehabilitation program marks a significant turning point in his life,” Mr McLeod, who helped orchestrate Schapelle Corby’s release from Kerobokan Prison, said in a statement.
“He has overcome his addiction and emerged as a changed, better man.
“Troy is now committed to living a healthier, fulfilling life and contributing positively to his community, exemplifying personal growth and redemption.”
The 49-year-old father-of-two narrowly avoided jail following his arrest while on holiday in Bali during April, after local police found 3.15g of methamphetamine in his hotel room.
Facing up to 12 years in jail and a $740,000 fine, in July the court instead sentenced him to stay at an addiction treatment centre in the island’s capital.
His wife was often absent during court proceedings, with Mr McLeod saying she had been overwhelmed by the media attention.
Born in Balaklava, Mr Smith previously lived in Port Lincoln with his two children and ex-partner, working as a commercial fisherman and at the Lower Eyre Peninsula Council.
But, after hitting “rock bottom” as he battled with addiction and became estranged from his children, Mr Smith moved to Cairns, in Far North Queensland, in 2022.
It is unclear whether Mr Smith has returned with his wife to Port Lincoln or elsewhere in Australia.
