Car fire on Southern Expressway caught on video, another vehicle bursts into flames at Modbury
A car fire erupted on one of the state’s busiest roads this morning. See the video.
A car fire on the busy Southern Expressway slowed traffic to a crawl on Monday morning.
Just before 9.30am, firefighters were called the expressway at Reynella, where a light blue vehicle had erupted into flames in the southbound lane.
A video taken from a car in the opposite lane shows traffic slowing down on the approach, while the fire sends plumes of black smoke towards drivers.
It is unclear what caused it, but a witness said that Metropolitan Fire Service crews could not immediately access the scene because traffic was banked up.
SA Police said it is not being treated as suspicious.
Driver flees after fiery crash
Authorities are hunting a driver who did a runner after crashing a car in the northern suburbs overnight.
Emergency services were called to McIntyre Rd in Modbury at 1.10am on Monday morning after reports a car had crashed into a traffic light and caught fire.
The driver of the vehicle was last seen running west into scrubalnds off McIntyre Rd.
MFS crews were able to extinguish the car blaze and police searched for the driver, however he is yet to be located.
Police said the car was towed from the scene, and investigations into the crash are continuing.
