Community centre, arcade, office space to be included in expansion of 50-year-old Marion Resthaven
Developers of an aged-care facility say it will become “the heart” of the local area under a massive proposal to upgrade its facilities to include 150 bedrooms, a community centre and cafe.
More than 150 elderly people would be housed in Marion under a proposal to build a new two-to-three storey Resthaven aged-care facility, plans show.
The proposed development would be a “modern interpretation” of an existing facility at 12 Township Rd and 37 Finniss St, Marion, which has been in operation for nearly 50 years.
Documents reveal 150 bedrooms, a community centre, arcade, hairdresser and cafe would be constructed – along with an open-plan office space accommodating 60 work stations for the local community.
“(Our vision is) to integrate Resthaven’s diverse array of services within a village community heart – promoting connections and active participation through a forward-thinking, innovative approach,” the plans said.
“ … A vibrant, engaging place which fosters and facilitates meaningful relationships – offering a wide range of services to all and beating as the heart of Marion.
“The proposed Residential Aged Care facility will be two-to-three storeys in height and will comprise 150 bedrooms and associated lounge, dining, library, activity rooms, gym, multi- purpose room and terraces.”
A residential garden would also be included at the facility, with sensory garden beds, shelters, raised planters, shaded seating areas and will connect with a nature trail.
A total of 146 car parks would be available on-site – comprising staff and visitor spaces.
Submissions are open until January 22.
