A nine-month-old girl has been taken to hospital after she was attacked by a dog on a busy street near a school and preschool centre in Adelaide’s west.

A baby has been taken to hospital after suffering a dog bite.

A nine-month-old baby has been taken to hospital after being bitten by a dog in Adelaide’s western suburbs.

An ambulance responded to the attack on Ashley St, Torrensville, just after 8.30am on Tuesday morning.

An SA Ambulance Service spokeswoman said that a nine-month-old girl was taken to the Women and Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Her condition and the nature of her injury remains unknown.

Ashley St is a leafy residential road adjoined by Torrensville Primary School and Preschool Centre.

Staff members at both front offices said they were unsure if the baby had any family connection to the primary school or pre-school.

Multiple residents on the street reported hearing an ambulance siren from indoors at the approximate time of the call-out.

The occupant of the home attached to the triple-0 call said the attack did not occur at their address.

Ashley St resident Jaiden Wosley, 28, said he was unsurprised to hear of what transpired, as the road “gets quite busy” during school drop-off and pick-up hours.

“There’s always a lot of people along this road during the day, as it’s a bit of a thoroughfare ... it’s not great to hear,” Mr Wosley said.

Another resident, mother-of-three Jany Godi, 43, said it was common to see pet owners walking their dog along the street without a leash.

“A lot of parents walk with their kids to school along here,” Ms Godi said.

“I think the owners really have to secure their dogs, because sometimes they can be aggressive. Sometimes they will just come up and lick you, but you never know.”

A spokeswoman for West Torrens Council said it was aware of the incident.

“The City of West Torrens received a report about a dog attack at 9.30am this morning and the incident was reported to SAPOL and the dog owner,” she said.

“Council is currently investigating the incident.”
