Advertiser readers react to mum’s mad classroom meltdown
A furious mum was filmed in a violent spat at a private school in Adelaide. Now, Advertiser readers are expressing their own strongly-worded opinions. Read them here.
“Good on her.”
This week, a mother was filmed violently threatening a 12-year-old student at a private school in Adelaide’s north eastern suburbs – and many Advertiser readers have furiously leapt to her defence.
“What a legend of a mother,” one person commented on the Advertiser’s Facebook page.
“A parent does whatever it takes to protect their children,” posted another.
While the mother has since apologised and admitted to her wrongdoing, the topic of bullying in schools – and whether enough is being done to tackle it – is a lightning rod across Australia.
“Schools definitely need to do more to help before more young lives are lost,” one user commented under footage of the tirade.
“I don’t agree with how she did this but I understand wholeheartedly why,” said another.
The topic of bullying has always sparked a passionate response.
Premier Peter Malinauskas said it was “indefensible”.
“I don’t know what the circumstances were that led the parent to say those things, but whatever they were, they do not condone or justify those remarks in any circumstance whatsoever,” Mr Malinauskas said.
“It’s mind-boggling.”
Another headline this week included police and an ambulance being called to the notorious Golden Grove High after a sickening fight involving students.
That school’s principal, Peter Kuss, said “violence is absolutely unacceptable and the school takes the safety of its students very seriously”.
But the incident left parents “shocked and worried”.
Here’s a look at what our readers have been saying about the issue.

A parent can only take so much of watching their child hurt and sad.

It’s just more bullying

I’m so sorry this happened to her child but there is no excuse in this world for an adult to yell at a 12-year-old and tell her that she will slit her throat.

We all have those moments when our buttons are pushed too far. I hope you are better now and are remorseful for your actions.

There is not one excuse that makes this OK.
More needs to be done

What the heck is going on for a parent to get to breaking point with a child like this?
