The principal of a northeastern suburbs school has written to concerned parents, after a mother threatened to “slit” a 12-year-old student’s throat in a classroom.

In a letter viewed by The Advertiser, Principal Patrick Harmer informed parents about the shocking incident which happened at St Paul’s College in Gilles Plains on Monday afternoon.

Mr Harmer confirmed that police were investigating the disturbing attack, telling parents that their children’s safety was the highest priority.

Video from the incident shows a woman confronting students in a Year 8 classroom, before hurling a tirade of abuse.

“You ever f****** mess with my daughter again I’ll slit your f****** throat,” the mother is heard yelling.

“You want to f****** go bitch? You want to f****** go? You ever f****** talk to my daughter again.

“I’m your f****** nightmare bitch … I’ll slit your f****** throat. I’ll be waiting for you.”

The mother then turns her attention towards a staff member, before being removed by her husband.

“Twelve months I’ve had emails with this f****** school and they’ve done nothing,” she can be heard saying.

Premier Peter Malinauskas said the incident was “indefensible”.

“I don’t know what the circumstances were that led the parent to say those things, but whatever they were, they do not condone or justify those remarks in any circumstance whatsoever,” Mr Malinauskas said.

“It’s mind-boggling.

“How do you possibly rationalise that behaviour, how does anyone in their own mind justify or rationalise that behaviour

He said new legislation, which would allow principals to bar abusive parents from school grounds, would better protect students and staff.

Shocked parents told The Advertiser the incident had rocked the school community.

“It’s scary for the kids, scary for the parents, we want our kids to be safe and secure,” a father said.

But other parents called for an investigation into bullying at the school, which has over 1000 students from Reception to Year 12.

“I can understand why she did what she did, but I think there is a better way to go about it,” a parent said.

“They need to ensure that the bullying situation is under control, it should be a no tolerance policy, so things don’t happen.”

“It must have been something going on for a long time if she was going to go like that,” another parent said.

“I’ve heard stories of bullying going on and nothing being done to solve it.

“She’s obviously gone there (to the school) and nothing’s been done, maybe this is the catalyst now that can change it.”
