Adelaide singer Rachael Leahcar shares grief after her father’s tragic passing
One of Adelaide’s favourite singers has shared the tragic news regarding the man dubbed “a constant presence at gigs”.
Beloved Adelaide singer Racheal Leahcar says she lost her “everything” after the tragic passing of her “incredible dad, Greg”.
On Friday night, the Voice Australia favourite took to social media to share the sad news and commemorate her father, who sustained extensive injuries after he fell through a roof in 2020 and then was diagnosed with cancer in 2023.
Ms Leahcar said she will remember her dad as “a true gentleman”.
“He never let me open a door, pull my own chair out, or carry a bag, and would often lug big suitcases around when we travelled for shows,” she wrote. “He loved sharing a beer with mates and always had a joke to make you laugh.
“He was the rock of our family supporting me, my older brother Luke, his wife Ingrid (my mum) … dad taught us to always stand up for what’s right, to be kind, and to love fiercely.”
Ms Leahcar said that her dad was able to show his “love for the people around him” even in his darkest periods of sickness.
Despite her sadness, Ms Leahcar also expressed joy at knowing her father met her son, who was only born late last year.
“I am so grateful you got to meet your grandson, Eli Gregory, whose middle name is attributed to you,” she said. “Eli always lit up when he saw you and the love you had for him was obvious by the twinkle in your eyes as you interacted with him.”
Many of Ms Leahcar’s fan remembered her dad as “a constant presence at gigs” who walked her on stage and always made sure she was safe.
Greg’s funeral service will be held on Friday 29th November 3:30pm in the Heysen Room, Centennial Park.
