Bush foods brand founder and chef Sharon Winsor, from Mudgee in Central West NSW, is one of seven inspiring rural women who have been honoured at the seventh annual Shine Awards lunch.
The Shine Awards is a national campaign by The Weekly Times, supported by Harvey Norman, celebrating rural and regional women who make a real difference to their communities and industries.
Ngemba Weilwan woman Sharon was named the 2023 overall winner for establishing Indigiearth, a native food and hospitality brand that sources ingredients from Indigenous nurseries and growers. Sharon’s passion for sharing her culture through food has carried her through difficult times, including the stillbirth of her first child and escaping domestic violence. She also works to raise awareness and advocate for better support for women who have lost babies to stillbirth.
Herald and Weekly Times chairman Penny Fowler and Harvey Norman chief executive Katie Page presented the awards at a ceremony on Cruden Farm, at Langwarrin.
Also honoured were Active Farmers fitness instructor Claire Harrison from Bridgewater on Loddon, Ability Agriculture founder Josie Clarke from Kempsey NSW, Cowgirls Gathering founder Amanda Loy from Coleyville in Queensland, South Burnett councillor Kathy Duff from Queensland and cattle farmer Lyndee Severin from Curtin Springs Station in the Northern Territory.
This year’s special Youth award went to beef genetics supply chain manager Annie Pumpa from Braidwood in NSW.
