Royal Family has no plans for Princess Diana’s anniversary
Buckingham Palace has announced how it will mark the 25th anniversary of Diana’s death, as Prince William and Prince Harry plans emerge.
Next week will mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana’s passing.
However, the royal family reportedly has no plans to commemorate the event, according to The Sun.
Diana’s two children, Prince William and Harry, will likely make public statements remembering their mother, however.
Earlier this week, Prince Harry had this to say regarding his mother’s passing: “Next week is the 25th anniversary of my mother’s death, and she most certainly will never be forgotten.
“I want it to be a day filled with memories of her incredible work and love for the way she did it.
“I want it to be a day to share the spirit of my mum with my family, with my children, who I wish could have met her.
“Every day, I hope to do her proud.”
It is likely that William and Harry will not be marking the sombre date together and in person, according to reports.
Last summer the pair unveiled a statue of their mother in the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace.
According to the Telegraph, The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex will mark the anniversary “privately and separately, having agreed to draw a line under their public commemorations.
It comes as a 37-year-old Ford Escort owned by the Princess of Wales has sold at auction for more than six times the anticipated price.
The black RS Turbo Series 1, which Princess Diana drove between August 1985 and May 1988, has only 40,000 km on the clock.
The car went for 650,000 Pounds Sterling ($A1.1 million) and smashed the previous best price for one of her cars.
Diana was killed in a car crash in the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, aged just 36.
Anecdotes and memories of the late princess are making their way into the media ahead of the quarter century milestone since her shock death.
Express Online reports that Princess Diana once dressed up as a gay man with the assistance of Queen star Freddie Mercury.
Actress Cleo Rogers recalled that the singer helped the Princess dress up in the unusual style so that he could sneak her into the Royal Vauxhall Tavern nightclub.
The pair were caught “giggling and nudging each other like naughty schoolchildren” the actress claims.
And according to The Sun, Dr Jane Collins of Great Ormond Street Hospital recalls a visit from the royal in the late ’80s.
“The minute she arrived on the ward and was with the children and their families, she became totally relaxed, sitting on the edge of the beds and treating each child she met and his or her parents as if they were the only people in the world she wanted to talk to,” she says.
“Our abiding memory of Diana is a warm, compassionate princess with a deep affection for babies and children, comfortable with people from every background, of every nationality and in whatever circumstances they met.”
