Police release statement after shots fired in Booie, near Kingaroy

Police locked down Schellbachs Road at Booie near Kingaroy on Thursday afternoon, after reports of shots fired. Friday morning they were giving little away about what had transpired.

Police have revealed little information about what caused officers to swarm a property in the South Burnett on Thursday.

It comes after specialist negotiators were reportedly called in and drivers told to avoid the area around Shellbachs Rd, Booie following reports of shots being fired.

Officers had the scene would not be drawn on what was unfolding but the road was blocked off and tyre-busting stingers were laid out as they negotiated with a man inside.

Nearby residents commented on social media on Thursday night that they were “fine” but “lots of police cars going past and … heard gunshots at lunch time and then sirens”.

On Friday a Queensland Police Service spokeswoman provided little insight into the operation.

“I can advise that QPS officers attended a property in Booie yesterday afternoon following reports of an incident, however no further police action was taken,” she said.

“Further inquiries are ongoing with the resident at that property.

“There is no further information available at this time.”

The alarm was first raised after a person was allegedly shot at on the property about 2pm on Thursday and police were still on scene into the early evening.

Police could not confirm the victim was in a delivery vehicle.

A search of RP Data reveals there are just seven properties on Schellbachs Rd and another five properties listed as being on the road but in Kingaroy.

Eerily, it’s the same neighbourhood where a man was allegedly shot dead at a property in March, 2024.

Kingaroy businessman Gavin Pates is charged with the manslaughter of 21-year-old Nanango man Blayde Barber at a property on Kingaroy Barker’s Creek Rd which intersects with Shellbachs Rd.

The Courier Mail does not suggest the incidents are linked.
