Robert William Thomas Lasserre charged with torture, extortion, armed robbery and weapons offences
The man arrested after a tense standoff with officers from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad has been charged and is set to face court today.
A 38-year-old Toowoomba man faced the Magistrates Court on Monday charged with a long list of serious offences, including torture, extortion and armed robbery.
Police will the allege Robert William Thomas Lasserre committed the serious offences in Brisbane on Thursday, January 2.
After an extensive investigation he was located at an address in Harlaxton on Sunday.
Specialist Police, including officers from the Toowoomba Tactical Crime Squad and Dog Squad, were called to Gleeson Crescent home where they engaged Mr Lasserre.
Police locked down the street and deployed a drone to surveil the area.
Police used a megaphone to encourage Mr Lasserre to surrender and he was taken into police custody.
The 38-year-old, wanted on several matters, across several locations was arrested and charged.
His charges include one count each of extortion, enter dwelling with intent, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, deprivation of liberty and torture, which are alleged to have been committed in Brisbane on Thursday.
He was also charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, failing to dispose of a needle or syringe, a series of traffic offences and 23 breaches of bail.
Mr Lasserre’s solicitor Michael Corbin appeared before Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Monday seeking a brief of evidence, but did not apply for bail.
“(The seven offences) are all interlinked and we are going to need a brief to work out what will go ahead … some of them are indictable charges,” Mr Corbin said.
Mr Lasserre is due back in court on February 28 for further mention and will remain in custody awaiting his court date.
