A bidding war for a house in Sunshine Beach has blown past the $9m mark as buyers duelled for a piece of paradise. And the property is not even on the beach.

8 Stevens Street in Sunshine Beach sold for more than $9m at auction on Saturday, July 31, with Peter TeWhata sealing the deal for Tom Offermann Real Estate with the happy vendors.

A “dry block” beach house in Sunshine Beach has sparked a weekend bidding war which soared past $9m.

The four-bedroom home at 8 Stevens Street, Sunshine Beach, was snapped up for $9.025m at auction on Saturday, July 31.

The buyers, who swooped ahead of the lockdown imposed Saturday afternoon, beat out five other bidders to claim the Chris Clout-designed property.

Tom Offermann Real Estate hailed the result as a suburb record for a non-beachfront home in Sunshine Beach.

The sale was the latest in a string of five beachfront sales north of $10m negotiated by the boutique Noosa agency, which included a $21m deal settled in the past fortnight.

The Olympic announcement was being viewed as another boost for the market with optimism expected to remain high over the next decade.

Sales agent Peter Te Whata said Sunshine Beach had been recognised as the nation’s second most popular suburb.

He said the anonymity of the beach, just one house block away, the climate and the laid back atmosphere at the local cafes and eateries in Sunshine Beach made it an attractive prospect for cashed-up buyers.

Agency principal Tom Offermann said there had been phenomenal growth across Noosa Heads, Sunshine Beach and Noosaville in the past quarter.

He said tight supply in the Noosa region had fuelled the price growth as southern buyers sought a sea change.

The pool and entertaining area is the centrepiece of the stunning home.

Mr Offermann said the agency averaged six to 12 registered bidders at most auctions over the past year and it was showing no sign of reducing.

“The interstate migration will remain strong for years to come as there is a huge backlog of people planning to move to the coast,” Mr Offermann said.

He tipped the successful Olympic bid to deliver economic activity which would underpin “an influx of new residents” while the event itself would attract masses of competitors and international tourists.

The buyers of 8 Stevens Street landed themselves a unique U-shaped home with a large heated pool and indoor/outdoor entertaining space at its heart.

The three-level home had views of the Coral Sea and was finished in March, 2020.
