DAVID Jochinke will seek a second-term as the National Farmers’ Federation’s vice-president, when the national lobby holds its annual board elections next week.

Mr Jochinke – whose term as Victorian Farmers Federation president will come to an end next month – will go head-to-head with former WA Farmers president Tony York.

NFF president Fiona Simson is unopposed for a second term in the top role.

Mr Jochinke, who farms grains and livestock in the state’s northwest, said he wanted to continue to support the NFF and potentially be “a little more active” as his VFF role ended.

“Additional to making sure agriculture has a strong, sustainable future, I’m interested in making sure all Australians in rural areas get a quality standard of services,” he said, citing infrastructure and telecommunications as key issues.

The Weekly Times was unable to reach Mr York for comment by deadline.

Mr York is a third-generation farmer from WA’s central Wheatbelt, and farms wheat, barley, canola, legumes and a merino-based sheep flock.
