DIRTY work boots will be ditched in favour of ball gowns and tuxedos for a Victorian Young Farmers event on Saturday.
The group will hold its inaugural ‘Boots to Black Tie’ gala dinner to celebrate recent successes, including a membership increase and four new clubs.
“We’ve decided to hold a ball as a celebration of what we’ve achieved in the past couple of years and what we’re hoping to achieve in the future,” Victorian Young Farmers deputy secretary Simone Pedretti said.
“Our membership over the past two years has more than doubled.
“That’s a really great result and we’re hoping to take advantage of that and keep running with it.”
Ms Pedretti said past and current members, along with anyone wishing to get involved with the group, were welcome to attend the dinner, to be held at Ballarat Lodge.
“We’ve sort of gone that upper-class style — a lot of clubs hold local bashes that are a bit more casual, so we wanted something that was going to be really special,” she said.
The gala dinner will also mark the launch of Victorian Young Farmers’ branded merchandise and the group’s Red Cross blood drive.
Ms Pedretti hoped 150 people would attend the dinner.
“It is hard with distances and people are very busy — just getting your members turning up at your monthly local meetings is a great start,” she said.
“We’re looking to build at a state level as well to get Victorian Young Farmers back to its former glory.”
