The Weekly Times donates to bushfire relief

Proceeds from the sale of every copy of the January 22 edition of The Weekly Times, as well as the proceeds from advertisements placed in it, will be donated to bushfire relief.

THE Weekly Times will next week donate proceeds from the sale of every copy, as well as the proceeds from advertisements placed in the January 22 edition, to bushfire relief.

The paper joins News Corp Australia metropolitan titles, which will also donate newspaper sale and advertisement proceeds across the nation on January 21.

The goal is to raise in excess of $1 million.

News Corp Australia has also previously donated $50,000 to the Salvation Army and the Red Cross.

News Corp last week also pledged $5 million to bushfire relief.

“It is clear that confronting the bushfire disaster in Australia requires both an immediate response and an ongoing investment in rebuilding the lives and livelihoods of those most affected by the fires across the country,” News Corp executive chairman Rupert Murdoch said.

“As a company with roots in Australia and an abiding commitment to its people and communities, we are determined to help, both in this time of great need, and well into the future, as the hard work of restoration continues.”

Mr Murdoch has also pledged $2 million, and Lachlan and Sarah Murdoch have also donated $2 million.
