Snow falls again in Brisbane

SNOW is falling, with reports of up to 8cm of snow blanketing the streets of one Queensland town.

It’s a winter wonderland on Queensland’s Granite Belt this morning.

STANTHORPE has woken to a winter wonderland after the town was blanketed in up to 8cm of snow - the state’s heaviest fall in a decade.

Social media is awash with pictures of excited residents playing in the white stuff and building snowmen.

“It’s snowing in Stanthorpe,” Peter Pugno wrote on Instagram alongside a pic of his car covered in snow. “It’s amazing!”

Snowflakes began to fall about 1am around Eukey, Stanthorpe and Applethorpe and within three hours some areas were covered in 5-8cm of snow.

Forecaster Adam Blazak says the Sunshine State hasn’t seen this much snow in at least 10 years.

“It’s still snowing a little bit just south of Stanthorpe,” he said.

“It’s pretty exciting for Queensland.”

Those eager to see the snow have until about mid-morning before the rain settles in and ruins the show.

Well below average temperatures were felt across the state overnight as a second icy blast moved in from the south. At Applethorpe and Kingaroy it dropped to just -2.5C.

Although it only dipped to 7C in Brisbane this morning it will feel much cooler than temperatures suggest as strong icy winds batter the city throughout the day.
