THE Queensland Government has extended its offer of emergency financial assistance to more people affected by last week’s devastating storm.

Residents in suburbs north of Brisbane are still mopping up after around 300mm fell in less than 24 hours on Friday.

Homes were inundated and five people died when trying to cross flooded roads.

Around 7500 insurance claims totalling $26 million had been lodged as of yesterday morning, with more expected.

The government’s offer of assistance has now been extended to include 63 streets across 12 suburbs.

Australian charity GIVIT is managing all offers of donated goods and services during the recovery of this severe weather event. Visit www.givit.org.au for a list of needed items.
