RAINFALL levels for December were mixed across Victoria, with some relief on the east coast but little in the south.

According to Bureau of Meteorology data, December rainfall was below to very-much-below-average for west central Victoria, southern South Australia, the Cape York Peninsula and large area along and inland of the western coats of Western Australia.

But December rainfall was above to very-much-above-average across eastern Victoria, the southern half of Queensland and eastern NSW.

BOM said, while deficiencies had lessened in parts of Queensland and NSW, deficiencies increased in western Victoria and southeast South Australia.

It is likely that weather conditions will be drier than normal in January through to March, in western and north eastern Australia.
