A HISTORIC country pub in Gippsland has been destroyed by fire overnight.
Fire crews rushed to the Caves Hotel in Main St, Buchan, about midnight.
The pub was fully alight when they arrived and eight CFA crews battled the blaze for more than 90 minutes.
They were unable to save the old wooden hotel, believed to have been built in the 1890s.
A CFA spokesman said the damage bill was still to be determined.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
