GIPPSLAND’S Farm World field days is the latest casualty of the COVID-19 pandemic, with organisers today cancelling the event.

Originally scheduled for March 26-29 at Lardner Park at Warragul, the event would have been Farm World’s 53rd year.

In past years, it has drawn more than 60,000 visitors to the region.

Lardner Park’s board and management team announced the cancellation in a statement that said:

“Due to the evolving COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation, the State Government of Victoria has announced a State of Emergency which prohibits non-essential, organised public gatherings of more than 500 people within the State of Victoria for the next four weeks, effective midday today.

“We regret to share that Farm World 2020, presented by Lardner Park has been cancelled. This decision was made after Premier Daniel Andrews’ State of Emergency announcement this morning.”

More than 500 exhibitors had committed to the event.

This year, organisers and exhibitors had been hoping it would offer an economic boost to regional businesses struggling with trade downturn due to the recent bushfires.
