Wool store sales to go ahead amid strict coronavirus rules

Wool store auctions will be allowed to take place at wool stores, with strict coronavirus rules in place. Here’s what we know.

WOOL auctions in Victoria will be allowed to go ahead from today, after State Government coronavirus restrictions threatened to move auctions from the wool store to online only.

It comes after a letter was issued to members of the wool industry last week advising open cry wool auctions in the Melbourne area were considered an ‘Auction House’, which is not a permitted activity.

The Weekly Times understands late night discussions were held between industry and the State Government last night, with an announcement this morning stating open cry wool sales will be permitted to operate.

It is understood the two main conditions are wool sales are to be conducted over two days maximum, with masks mandatory at all sales.

The Weekly Times is seeking comment from both the Department of Health and Human Services and Agriculture Victoria.

More to come.
