UPDATE: WESTERN Victorian farmers hope their autumn break to the season is finally on the way.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting heavy rain for Monday, particularly in the southwest, while areas near the coast are expected to get more than 20mm.

The falls are expected to halve inland. The Wimmera can expect about 10mm.

The bureau’s senior forecaster, Richard Carlyon, said Monday’s “strong active front” would push into the Wimmera.

“There is the potential for more than 15mm in the southwest but much less as the system moves inland,” he said.

Mr Carlyon said showers would continue on Tuesday with the chance of better falls in the southwest but again not much hope for large rain totals in the Wimmera.

Western Victoria mostly missed out on the weekend rain with most totals less than 5mm, while the northern Mallee continued its good run with totals reaching 20mm.

The Millewa area has received more than double its April rainfall average.

Warracknabeal historically gets 26mm but only 18.6mm has fallen so far this month.

More than 20mm fell in many places in North East Victoria and Gippsland, with 50mm at Bairnsdale.
