Natalie Kirby rallies Daylesford community for Good Friday Appeal
By working together, the Daylesford community has achieved amazing results for the Good Friday Appeal.
Daylesford high school teacher and mum of two Natalie Kirby has had a driving force behind her 12 years of dedication as a volunteer for the Good Friday Appeal.
Born with congenital hypothyroidism, Natalie was a patient at the Royal Children’s Hospital for her entire childhood.
“It was a really important place for me and it is an honour and a privilege to be able to be involved in the fundraiser each year,” Natalie said.
“The cause is so dear to so many people and everyone has a story about the appeal that they share with us.”
For the last six years, Natalie has been a Good Friday Appeal regional area manager volunteer and last year Daylesford had its biggest year yet, raising $30,946.
“It was incredible,” Natalie said.
“We have such a generous community with such a big heart and while we are boosted by being a tourist town, we also have the local CFA, lots of schools get involved, and the local businesses are such a crucial part of what we do and they are so supportive each year of the appeal.”
Natalie’s seven-year-old son was “finally allowed to shake the tins last year” and his friends help now too.
“To be part of that community and to show we can do something even if it’s only little, we can leave a big mark and help people that are less fortunate than we are - that’s a really beautiful thing to be involved in,” Natalie said.
“It’s really important for my kids and other kids in the community to see the good in helping others.”
