Aspiring Territory footballers will get their chance to meet some of their heroes with two current Matildas making the trip to the Top End to host a special Future Ballers clinic.
FC23 academy founder Matthew McNab has joined forces with the pair to give Territory kids a chance to meet and learn from two players currently in the national side.
Chloe Berryhill and Emily Gielnik have made 56 and 60 appearances for the Matildas respectively – and are touring the country to provide clinics for young girls wanting to get involved in the game.
And now they’re coming to Darwin for a five hour clinic on July 12 from 9am to 2pm at Gray Oval, with the help of Palmerston Rovers.
“Chloe and Emily want to give back to the game and have made it about the girls because when they were growing up they didn’t have all girls teams as there are now,” McNab said.
“A mate of mine Luis Ruiz, who runs academies across the world, helped connect us after working with them and lucky for me that relationship helped twist them in our direction.
“I’ve brought up a lot of coaches from down south for the academy and this will hopefully have a big impact on a lot of girls up here.
“They’ve also got two super sessions which we’ve taken for the Hellenic women’s team and FC23, which is great because the girls game is growing so fast because of the Matildas success.”
The clinic won’t just focus on playing but also on empowering girls with confidence in sport to help them beyond the game.
They want to provide support and inspire these girls in an environment they feel most comfortable in with the girls only clinic while giving first hand access to two players that are playing currently.
“It’s not purely on football, there’s a lot of stuff about mentality and each participant will get a bag of products worth about $350,” McNab said.
“They’re really hoping this event will inspire and help some of these girls build their skills and understand it’s not just a boys game, that there is a journey for them in the sport.
“The Matildas are the most followed team in Australia and everyone caught the bug in the World Cup.
“This builds on the stuff we do at FC23 sending kids away and giving them exposure because these experiences and opportunities are a potential way for kids to get seen.
“If these kids get to see someone they look like then they can be inspired to follow that journey themselves, these clinics are the sort of thing that sticks with these young people so it’s great.”
The clinic costs $299 for girls aged 8-18 with the link to buy tickets found here https://www.futureballer.com.au/shop/p/darwin-clinic
