A West Australian has become the second interstater to snag a $10k prized barra as the winnings continue to rain in for lucky fishos during Million Dollar Fish season 11.

Jesse Wansbrough from Fremantle became the 14th winner of the season after reeling in a 77cm red-tagged barramundi while visiting Borroloola on November 10.

What started as a spontaneous flick to see what was about turned into a golden catch with winnings he now plans to put towards another trip, and his mortgage.

“It’s pretty good. It’s a nice bonus for the trip. It’s pretty surprising,” he said.

“I might go on a trip. The rest of it, I don’t know, something sensible. Might put it on the mortgage.”

He becomes the second tourist of the season to reel in a winner after Queensland’s Kimberly Heming snagged red-tag number seven at Dundee Beach.

So far this season, $150,000 in prize money has been awarded, while official charity partner Surf Life Saving NT has received $15,000, thanks to a $1000 donation for every $10,000 fish caught.

Registering for Season 11 automatically enters you into monthly prize draws, with rewards including Airnorth flight vouchers, Shimano fishing packs and exclusive MDF merchandise.

This season’s new Reel of Fortune twist has added even more ways to win big, with monthly bonus challenges and incentives.

November’s challenge, The Weekend Fisho, doubled the prize for the first $10,000 red-tagged fish caught on a weekend which was won by Loren Hanton just days into the month.

NT Major Events executive director Aimee Luxton said the MDF continued to reel in excitement for the Territory, drawing visitors and showcasing world-class fishing destinations.

“It’s fantastic to see anglers from across Australia getting involved, and winning big,” she said.

“It gives everyone, from first-time visitors to seasoned locals, a genuine chance to win life-changing prizes while exploring the best of the Top End.

“The competition brings together adventure, community and reward in a way that’s distinctly Territory.”

Sportsbet head of operations NT Thijs Bors said there was a real buzz around the Top End following the successful start to Season 11.

“With 14 $10,000 barra already caught, Season 11 of Million Dollar Fish is shaping up to be a big one.”

There are still 86 red-tagged barramundi worth $10,000 swimming around Top End waterways, along with 11 fish carrying the life-changing $1 million prize-tag with registrations open at milliondollarfish.com.au.
