Five lucky Territory fishos reel in prized tagged barra to start Million Dollar Fish Season 11
The red-tagged barra have been biting giving Territory fishos plenty to celebrate with five managing to reel in the goods at the start of Million Dollar Fish season 11.
It’s been an exciting start to Season 11 of Million Dollar Fish with five red-tagged barramundi already delivering the goods for lucky fishos.
The season may only be 10 days old but already five fishos have been able to reap the rewards becoming $10,000 richer.
Karama local Russell Kenny was the season’s first lucky winner snagging a 71cm at Corrobboree Billabong while out with his grandson on the opening day of the competition.
The second red tag was claimed the very next day by fellow Karama resident, Otto Kainulainen, who hooked an 81.5cm barra at Fisherman’s Wharf.
But the lucky snags didn’t end there with Darwin local Jamie Poniris making it three red-tagged captures in three days.
He was out with his partner when he caught a 76cm barra at Bridge Billabong on the Mary River.
It was Mr Poniris’ third $10,000 catch, having previously caught tagged barramundi in Season 6 and Season 10.
Jabiru’s Leah Pettersson was the fourth lucky fisho reeling in a $10,000 fish October 5 when she ventured out to the East Alligator River.
Her catch of a 73cm barra came about 4km upstream from the boat ramp with what will now be seen as a lucky classic barra lure picked out by her daughter.
Darwin fisho James Arratta became the fifth lucky angler to reel in a red-tagged barramundi this season, landing an 85cm beauty at Bridge Billabong on October 7.
His solo venture under the full moon pitted the Waratah footy player up against a strong barra, which put up an epic fight before he finally landed the prized catch.
Surf Life Saving NT, the official charity partner, is also $5000 better off, with $1000 donated for each red-tagged fish caught.
There are still 95 red-tagged barramundi worth $10,000 swimming around Top End waterways, along with 11 fish carrying the life-changing $1 million prize-tag.
Season 11 of the Million Dollar Fish competition runs until March 31, 2026 but to claim your haul you must be registered at milliondollarfish.com.au.
