Thunderstorms, potential flooding and fine sunshine are variably smattered across Australia for the Easter long weekend.

With the last of Tropical Cyclone Megan moving south and east from the Northern Territory, storms and rainfall are expected in the region.

Sydney

Sydney can look forward to warm, sunny weather for the whole long weekend.

The city can expect highs of 27 degrees and 28 degrees from Saturday to Monday.

Melbourne

Despite not quite reaching the heat of Sydney, Melbourne will still experience warm days with maximum temperatures of 24 and 25 degrees.

However, by Monday the city will be awash with rain that is set to last for several days.

Brisbane

Rain is forecast for Brisbane throughout the remainder of the weekend, with a warm humid few days ahead.

Temperatures are set to peak at about 27 degrees until Monday, but downpours are expected around the state with 14 flood warnings in place for various locations.

South Australia

Adelaide is anticipating bright sunshine and warmth for the Easter weekend, with a sunny top of 30 forecast for Sunday.

Rain will move over the state on Monday.

Tasmania

A windy weekend is due in Hobart, with Easter Sunday shaping up to be shrouded in clouds.

There is a chance of showers on Sunday with a maximum temperature of 21 degrees forecast.

Perth

The Kimberley region is due for a heatwave spanning several days, while Perth is set to experience balmy days of 28 and 29 degrees over the weekend.

The weather is set to remain warm and sunny for the days after the long weekend too.

Australian Capital Territory

Canberra will experience cloudy skies and light winds over the weekend.

Despite the clouds, Sunday will see a warm top of 29 degrees.

Northern Territory

Electrical storms and rain are forecast for the entirety of the Easter weekend in Darwin, with rainfall of as much as 20mm expected on Sunday and Monday.

Nevertheless the heat will persist, creating a muggy weekend up north with maximum temperatures of about 32 degrees.
