Cattle fraud arraignment moves to Sydney Downing Centre

The arraignment of alleged cattle fraudster Corey Ireland was adjourned in the Sydney Downing Centre on Friday morning.
Mr Ireland, formerly of Kyeamba South of Wagga Wagga and now residing in northern NSW, appeared before Judge Mark Williams SC via video link.
Mr Ireland’s barrister told the court he had “only come into the matter last evening,” and he sought an adjournment of four to six weeks for the arraignment.
The crown did not wish to be heard and did not oppose the adjournment, with the matter now listed for October 4 in the Sydney Downing Centre.
Mr Ireland’s barrister asked that his client appear via videolink for the next listing date.
His bail status was unchanged, and no orders were made by the court on Friday.
The Weekly Times understands that Mr Ireland is using a new legal team after the matter was moved from the Wagga Wagga Local Court to the Sydney Downing Centre.
Court documents show that Mr Ireland is facing 16 charges of dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
Up to 13 of the charges date back to 2020. An additional three charges were laid in 2023.
Mr Ireland has not yet entered a plea.
The police facts tendered to the court allege that there are victims as far south as Tasmanian, throughout the Riverina, as well as Victoria.
The NSW Rural Crime Prevention team launched Strike Force Seger in 2019 to investigate alleged fraudulent cattle transactions.
