NSW police officer found dead identified as 52-year-old Mark Hobson
A NSW police officer found dead inside the Sydney Police Centre has been remembered as a kind and helpful man.
A senior police officer found dead inside a police station in Sydney’s inner-east has been identified two days after his death.
Senior Constable Mark Hobson, 52, was discovered at the Sydney Police Centre in Surry Hills early on Monday morning.
NSW Police Commissioner Karen Webb visited the station following the incident, which she described as a “very sad day” for the force.
“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family,” the statement read.
“Every support will be made available for staff and family impacted by this tragedy.”
A critical incident investigation is underway however his death is not being treated as suspicious.
It is understood Constable Hobson commenced training at NSW Police Force Academy in Goulburn in 1996 age 24, following in his father Ian’s footsteps, who is reportedly a retired sergeant.
Tributes for Senior Constable Hobson have flooded social media, including a heartfelt comment from a former colleague.
“Worked with him at (State Technical Investigation Branch), nice young man, always helpful, assisted operations with major jobs, RIP brother,” he said.
“RIP sir and thank you for your service …” one person wrote.
“Forever rest in peace brother in blue,” another wrote.
