A BIG daddy of spreaders, the versatile Gason 12.8 tonner will make its Wimmera Field Days debut this year.
Released last August, the Australian-made spreader is drawing lots of interest with its versatility and wide range of options.
The biggest spreader yet to come out of AF Gason’s family-owned Ararat factory, it is set up for the latest monitoring technologies, with the option of the Farmscan Ag monitor system, the Topcon system or a John Deere drive-rate controller system.
There is also the option of load cells, allowing farmers and contractors during operation to more effectively measure from the tractor cab how much product remains in the bin, said Greg Gason, development manager/director of AF Gason.
“Another unique feature that is standard is that you can use it as a general purpose spreader, say spreading gypsum, lime, chicken manure and that sort of thing, with specific general purpose spinners,” he said.
“Plus we provide a second set of easy-to-change-over spinners that we call a wide-spread spinner. These spinners allow you to put out granulated materials like urea to a 36m spread width.”
Designed for tough local conditions, the spreader is of heavy gauge steel with a baked enamel paint finish, and comes with fewer moving parts to reduce maintenance.
Options include varying wheel centres (2.1m or 3m), braked or non-braked axles, a park brake, wheel chocks, tarp kit and tail-light kit for on-road.
Gason also has on display smaller spreaders, mowers and slashers, including a 20-foot roadside slasher. Gason’s sister company, Caramax, displays two of its “true outback” Trakmaster caravans.
Base price of the Gason 12.8 tonne spreader is $66,000 (excl GST), with the optional load cells and monitoring system extra.
