Wimmera Field Days: Tornado trailer sure to raise a storm
TORNADOS are predicted for this year’s Wimmera Field Days.
TORNADOS are predicted for this year’s Wimmera Field Days.
Each day one will roar through the Horsham site, although patrons need not be fearful.
In this case, the tornado will be in the form of a massive Tornado Multi Compartment Commodity Trailer by West Australian company Duraquip that will strut its stuff daily in grain transferral demonstrations.
The Tornado is a favourite with large-scale farmers in the west wanting to get product quickly and efficiently from just one large storage site to seeders working in the field.
Through the rest of the year, it shows its versatility by backing up quickly to haul produce from farm to the marketplace and vice-versa.
On show at Horsham is the three-compartment model (just one of several, including a liquid-carrying version).
For daily demonstrations it will team with a Grain Commander auger and feedout wagon from fellow WA company Commander Ag-Quip.
While the Tornado has yet to achieve big sales in Victoria, Duraquip director Rod Richardson said he believed once local broadacre farmers saw it in action they would be tempted to make a move from traditional methods of handling bulk seed and fertiliser.
“They will be impressed by its high-speed discharge, its versatility, its incredibly large capacity and its ease of use,” he said.
The multi-compartment trailers were shown two years ago at Horsham and in 2006 were an Ag Innovation award winner.
Depending on configuration, prices vary from $127,000 up to $167,000.
Demonstrations are daily at 10am, noon and 2pm.
