TANK cleaning business operator Leigh Maxwell knew he was on to something when he noticed a few clients’ tanks were providing clear water, even though sediment was bunched in the middle of the base.

He worked out the sediment was being pushed to the middle, and away from the outlet, because the inlet water was being directed at an angle that caused a swirling action.

“I thought ‘hang on, we can replicate this by directing the water flow’,” he recalls.

The result is what he calls the Tank Spinner, a device he claims not only provides cleaner water, but also protects pumps and prolongs filter life.

Made of PVC, it’s a simple insert that fits beneath the screen of most makes of plastic, polyethylene, fibreglass or corrugated tanks.

It directs the water flow so that in substantial rain a whirlpool action forms, pushing any sediment to the centre.

He expects to have the Tank Spinner for sale to the public for less than $100 in early April through stores, field days and online, but is demonstrating it at the Wimmera Field Days and taking orders.
