A LONG-TIME exhibitor at Sungold field days will be back again next week to showcase the latest in electronic dairy herd identification equipment.

Geelong-based Jantec Systems, a fixture at Sungold since 2000, has regularly shown its ID products and, more recently, milk metering gear.

Owner John van Bergen said the event always yielded new contacts as well as the valued opportunity to touch base with existing customers.

“We have a lot of people simply dropping in to say hello,” he said.

“This year, we’ll have the usual offerings, but will also have information on our new mobile grain feeder.

“It’s something we’re working on, but still at prototype stage.

“Our mobile phone app, however, is nearing completion and that will be available for preliminary viewing.”

Jantec’s electronic herd identification system can be used in both herringbone and rotary dairies and can include drafting. Drafting can also be stand-alone.

Using NLIS ear tags, the system identifies animals entering the platform and alerts the operator via voice message and coloured text on a computer screen to such markers as calvings, matings, pregnancy tests and treatments.

The system also controls the feed to each animal according to the schedule set.

If there are inline sensors installed on the platform, the system automatically records such parameters as milk volume, cell count, fat, protein, lactose, temperature, conductivity and weight.

The company’s electronic herd identification system can integrate with four heat detection systems, at least, saving time on observations and lifting fertility rates. It can also work in with walkover weigh scales and milk meters from various suppliers.
