A REMINDER of how important Australian agriculture is at a local, national and global level will be on the menu for guests at the Sungold Field Days dinner.

Guest speaker Xavier Rizos from Westpac will be talking about moving the Australian agricultural sector forward as global access to food and water is an essential driver to geopolitics.

Mr Rizos, who was a founding member of Westpac’s start-up incubator program The Garage, said he was looking forward to sharing his excitement about the future of the Australian industry.

“Agriculture is important and access to food, fibre and water is key for the development of the region,” Mr Rizos said.

“While mining is often in the headlines, agriculture has been a key part of building contemporary Australia.”

Mr Rizos said in 2017 agriculture was often a hot topic for analysts and observers when commenting about global challenges.

“Agriculture, food security, and related issues are never far from the agenda,” he said. “My excitement is multifaceted about what is to come for agriculture in Australia.”

Mr Rizos will also speak of his experience growing up in the French viticulture industry where vintners paid special consideration to how environmental factors influenced their final products.

The dinner will be held on Thursday, February 7, at Lady Bay Resort, Warrnambool.
