South East Field Days: Vintage fashion parade

THE annual South East Field Days fashion parade will be taking a trip down memory lane this year, with fashions of the ‘50s, ‘60s and ‘70s taking centre stage.

THE annual field days fashion parade will be taking a trip down memory lane this year, with fashions of the ’50s, ’60s and ‘70s taking centre stage.

“We’re turning back time,” co-ordinator Lynette Loechel said. “We want to create a bit of fun and a laugh.”

The costumes will come from a sample of items held for display at the Millicent Museum and will be worn by local models.

The models nominate a charity for their “pay” to be donated. To date the Lucindale Lions Club has given $2.2 million to charities over 40 years, much of which has come from the field days.

The clothes will showcase a “mixture of everything”, ­including day dresses, casual and evening wear.

But the vintage pieces will not be the only attraction. The walls behind the parade will be decorated with 45 beautiful quilts from the QuiltNSW Suitcase Challenge, which form part of a travelling exhibition.

“They let country areas apply for the quilts,” Ms Loechel said.

The theme of last year’s challenge was “remember”, inspiring the name of this year’s Field Days fashion parade “Remember When”.

Ms Loechel has co-ordinated the quilts for the field days since 1994 and previously arranged a “suitcase challenge” herself and has been involved in the fashion parade for many years.

The “Remember When” parade is at Elad Shed at 11am and 2.30pm on March 16-17.
