Gwandalan Alpacas: Fibre on show at South East Field Days, Lucindale

GWANDALAN Alpacas’ Angela and Ian Smyth will be on stage at the South East Field Days, showing off their animals’ fine fibre and endearing qualities.

On a family-owned farm at Patyah, 26km north of Edenhope, Angela and Ian breed their own alpacas, gradually introducing a variety of colours.

The couple knit all of their own products including jumpers, berets, beanies and scarfs. They also sell lightweight alpaca wool doonas, which are warm in winter and cool in summer.

Angela said they would bring an extensive range of products to Lucindale.

“We will be bringing a doona made from alpaca wool, as well as many hand-knit items to sell,” she said.

“We will also be selling hand-knit scarfs from an elderly couple in Murray Bridge.” Gwandalan Alpacas will showcase their products at a live presentation at Yakka Pavilion on Friday and Saturday of the field days at 11am.

“There will be informative talks about alpaca wool as well as the fibre and quality of the wool,” Angela said.

The Smyths started breeding alpacas 10 years ago, and are starting to sell some of their animals.
