LUCINDALE’S annual South East Field Days is expected to attract more than 20,000 visitors to South Australia’s Limestone Coast this month.

Now in its 41st year, the two-day event on March 15-16 has everything from the traditional wood chop and agricultural machinery displays to diving pigs and a coding club for kids.

“We have three large pavilions that are of interest to the whole family, exhibitors across the board,” says event organiser Lyn Crosby.

“This year Telstra are bringing the Code Club to the field days. The program is a STEM and coding-focused program designed for children aged eight to 12. And the aim of the program is to inspire the generations of the future to consider coding and technology as a career.

“We will also have presentations by the Limestone Coast Food Group.”

Kelpie Korner is a highlight every year, with working dogs showing off their skills.

This year, the Elders Novice Championship Challenge will take place on Thursday, March 14 and the Coprice South East Field Days Championship will be held on Saturday, March 16.

The public can watch the yard dogs put through their paces on a course regarded as one of the most challenging trial venues in Australia.

The Limestone Coast is a stunning pocket of South Australia, rich with cattle, sheep, cropping and viticulture, as well as fishing and forestry industries. Exhibitors will also show off the region’s best food and wine.

Other events not to miss are the Can Am team off-road vehicle stunt demos, honey and alpaca presentations, the Elders scrap metal art competition and the travelling fish show.

“The other thing we would like to push is the Lion’s Club mobile skin cancer screening unit,” Lyn said.

“We have 40 acres of lawn and have very clean toilets,” Lyn said. “Never underestimate the power of a clean toilet.”

The South East Field Days is held at Yakka Park, Lucindale, March 15-16. Yard dog trials start on March 14.
