SONIC’S new 8500-litre boomspray will debut at the field days, managing director Max Hebberman said, filling a gap in the range, and which can be transported by road without a pilot vehicle.

“Even with the new larger tank, the transport width comes in at 3.5m,” Mr Hebberman said.

“This means, with correct signage, flashing lights and perimeter flags, no pilot vehicle is required when moving to another farm or paddock or even when loaded on a truck.”

He said the design of the tank and 36m boom also make the folded machine 2m shorter.

Intended to sit below the 10,000-litre, 45m Sonic boomspray, the 8536 features the largest tank Sonic combines with a 36m boom, a step up from the 7000-litre option.

“The bigger the tank, the less times you have to fill it, so the more productive the machine can be,” Mr Hebberman said.

He expects it be able to spray 170ha per tank.

Sonic fits the 8536 with a BPW tandem suspension with rear-steering axle.

“What we get out of that is the stability of a tandem, which is much more stable than a single axle, but with the ability to turn like a single,” he said.

“You get a more stable boom out of a much better riding chassis. That leads to better crop height, your boom not hitting the ground.”

He also very happy with the quality of the BPW setup. Another factor in the design of Sonic booms is the use of cables rather than trusses to support the booms, Mr Hebberman said.

Sonic will announce a price for the 8536TS in time for the Mallee Field Days. The current 7036 is $156,000 (+GST).
