Mallee Machinery Field Days remains a community favourite

There will be $100 million worth of machinery and equipment will be on show at this year’s Mallee Machinery Field Days.

THERE will be $100 million worth of machinery and equipment on show at this year’s Mallee Machinery Field Days.

In its 41st year, the event, held just outside Speed in northwest Victoria, is expected to attract more than 8500 visitors.

More than 350 exhibitors will attend across the two days, displaying a range of local products from barrel furniture to the best of regional wines.

Secretary Andrew McLean said it was the consistency of what was on offer that kept the crowds coming in.

“We try to keep a similar base of exhibitors and not have too many of the same. We also have kept the prices down as much as we can,” he said.

Demonstrations in the Craft and Interest Pavilion will include a display by Sea Lake florist Farmyard Flowers, a cooking demonstration duet with Jamie from Jamie’s Fine Dressing and Doug from Screaming Seeds, chair-based exercises class with Mallee Track and a fashion parade by Taking Shape.

Kids will be able to check out model machinery at some displays, with some schools organising scavenger hunts.

Food will come from a local community group, while the barbecue offering, lamb rolls, pies, sandwiches and baked goods will also be available.

Mr McLean, who has worked on the event for 17 years, said he was excited to see everyone having a good time.

“I’m looking forward to the good weather and good crowd of people enjoying themselves seeing all the exhibits and catching up with friends,” he said.

The field days will be opened at 1pm on Wednesday July 31 by Grain Growers Victoria chairman Brett Hosking.

Scooters will be available for hire at the gate, which opens at 9am on both days and does not take cards.
