Vendor Ben Mayne said it was the second time in the stud’s history it had sold a bull at this age.

In a pre-sale rundown in the sale’s catalogue, Mr Mayne said he believed Thunderstruck was “very special”.

“We believe he will take the Angus breed to the next level,” Mr Mayne said.

“Texas Angus had exclusive semen rights to Poss Rawhide for the last two years and Thunderstruck is the first and only Rawhide son to be sold in the southern hemisphere this year.

“He was the absolute standout calf of a 350 cow/calf contemporary group at weaning time and had been since birth.”

Mr Mayne said the style and stature of the young sire was “something you have to see for yourself”.

“Presence, power, performance and profitability is the perfect way to describe this up and coming young Angus sire with a wonderful balance of all traits,” he said.

“Wendy and I have never been this excited before about the potential of where this young sire could go and what he could do for the Angus breed.”

Thunderstuck has Breedplan figures of +2.7 for birth weight and is the top 4 per cent of the breed its age group for calving ease and top 4 per cent for eye muscle area with a figure of 12.7.

The Texas Angus sale is continuing.
