A Poll Hereford bull sold to $27,000 and females to $20,000 at the breed’s national show and sale today in Dubbo, NSW.

The small offering of lots — 25 bulls, nine females and three genetic packages — sold for a 94 per cent clearance.

The best bull price of $27,000 was paid for The Ranch Qualifier, a 21-month-old bull sold by the Rees family, The Ranch, Tomingley, NSW. The bull weighed 890kg, had raw figures of 128cm for eye muscle area and 24mm of fat at the rump and 17mm at the rib.

The Ranch was established in 1998 in central western NSW and their sale topper, Qualifier, was a grandson of Days Wizard F84.

The stud reserved 50 straws of semen from the sale topper for use within their own herd.

The bull had figures of +83kg for 600-day growth and had a birth weight figure of +6.2kg. The bull sold to Steve and Therese Crowley, Tycolah Herefords, Barraba, NSW.

The top price bull was one of 13 that made $10,000 or more, with three bulls making $16,000. They included the junior champion bull, Armada Represent, a 16-month-old bull from the Rayner family, Mudgee, NSW; and two bulls from Morganvale, Keith, South Australia — Morganvale Quartet Q245, a 23-month-old bull and Morganvale Quirk Q067 which was one of the oldest in the catalogue at 27 months.

The 25 bulls averaged $10,920.

The top price in the female offering was $20,000 paid by Tarcombe Herefords, Ruffy, for the unit judged senior and grand champion female at the event.

Grathlyn Chance P061, a rising three-year-old cow sired by Koanui Techno 3062 had a young heifer calf at foot and was pregnancy-tested-in-calf, and was sold by Grathlyn Pastoral Company at Mudgee.

One other female made five figures, with the reserve junior champion, Llandillo Diana R027, a 16-month-old heifer, selling for $10,000 for vendors Llandillo Poll Herefords at Bathurst, NSW.
