Police investigate disappearance of Texas Powerplay bull near Yea in Victoria

A helicopter has been brought in to search for one of Australia’s most-expensive bulls, which has gone missing in Victoria’s North East.

Texas Powerplay P613, which sold for $108,000 in 2020, has gone missing from a farm in Victoria’s North East.

A $108,000 bull is on the run after it vanished from a farm in Victoria’s North East.

Police are investigating the disappearance of the bull from the Kelly Angus stud near Yea. The Weekly Times understands the bull — one of the most expensive in Australia — was reported missing late last week and a helicopter has been brought in to search for it.

The bull, Texas Powerplay P613, was purchased by Kelly Angus in syndication for $108,000 at the Texas Angus stud sale at Warialda in northern NSW in July 2020. At the time it was one of the biggest prices ever paid for an Angus bull in Australia.

A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed Kelly Angus had reported the bull missing and investigations were continuing.

“The circumstances of the disappearance are not clear, and we need to satisfy ourselves that this bull did not leave the property under his own steam,” the spokesman said.

“I have heard in other circumstances that bulls do jump over hot wires so that could have happened.

“It is possible he has gone walkabout and the manager has searched the property by helicopter and motorbikes and he is convinced he is not there.”

Powerplay P163 weighed more than 1000kg when he was sold and is considered one of the leading sires in the industry.

Kelly Angus was contacted by The Weekly Times but declined to comment.

Investigations by Victoria Police are continuing.
