New breed record for Shorthorn female
A Shorthorn breed price record has been smashed today at the Spry family’s on-property sale in southern NSW.
A Shorthorn female has sold under the hammer for a breed record of $95,000 at Spry’s Shorthorns near Wagga Wagga in southern NSW.
Principals Gerald Spry, his wife, Lynden, and his son, Matt, offered the standout cow during their “59 Years of Breeding” sale today at Ardlui.
Mr Spry described Spry’s Miss Buddy M36 (P) as one of the best females they had bred.
The high prices came quickly during the opening moments of selling. The bulls followed the standout sale of the feature lot, the female, and quickly made $70,000, $60,000, $50,000 and $44,000 within minutes of the auction opening.
The previous record for a Shorthorn female was $72,000, set in 2006 at The Grove Shorthorns Sale at Condamine, Queensland.
The record on Wednesday follows Millah Murrah Angus near Bathurst in NSW setting a new female breed average record for Angus cattle of $29,732.
Selling continues, and the sale is interfaced on AuctionsPlus.
