Fresh faces from long-time stud fixtures have bolstered the ranks of the Hereford Australia Super Sires catalogue and given breeders the chance to purchase some of the elite genetics in the upcoming autumn bull sales.

Five new Super Sires will join the existing 29 bulls in the program, which was launched in 2018 with the aim of identifying elite young bulls within the breed.

Southern NSW seedstock producer Ian Locke of Wirruna Herefords boasts the largest portion of the catalogue now with six bulls in the program, including the very first bull of the program Wirruna Matty M288.

The studs latest edition, Wirruna Real Deal R105, lives up to his name as the highest-ranking sire in the Hereford breed for the Southern Self Replacing Index at +$255.

The bull has Breedplan figures of +3.9kg for birthweight, +99kg for 600-day growth, -8.3 for days to calving, +75kg for carcass weight, +6.1sqcm for eye muscle area, +2.5 per cent for IMF and +8 for docility.

“These bulls represent the emphasis of traits I am trying to drive in our herd,” Mr Locke said of their studs dominance in the Super Sire list.

Wirruna Real Deal R105 along with Super Sire Wirruna Rockefeller R355 will be offered at the stud’s autumn bull and female sale on March 2 with 78 Poll Hereford bulls and 84 females on offer.

The Wirruna stud is not the only repeat fixture in the Super Sire catalogue. All five studs with new sires on the list this year already have existing sires in the program.

Kay Payne, Elite Herefords, Gundy, NSW, now has five bulls in the Super Sires program. Elite N224 S003 will be offered for sale at the Elite annual bull sale on September 7 later this year.

Glentrevor Herefords now have two bulls in the program, with most recent addition, Glentrevor Promise S356, to be offered at the Glentrevor sale on February 13.

Injemira Genesis S141 is the third Super Sire for Injemira Beef Genetics and will be offered at the Injemira Beef Genetics autumn bull sale on February 21.

“Having that Super Sires brand next to him will raise awareness of his potential,” stud principal Marc Greening said.

Bulls eligible for the Super Sires program must meet a strict selection criteria, including Breedplan figures in the top 25 per cent for calving ease, 400-day weight, eye muscle area, and the top five per cent for IMF and $Index.

The Super Sire bulls include:

• Elite N224 S003, Elite Poll Herefords, Gundy, NSW

• Glentrevor Promise S356, Glentrevor Hereford Finley, NSW

• Injemira Genesis S141, Injemira Beef Genetics, Book Book, NSW

• Wirruna Real Deal R105, Wirruna Poll Herefords, Holbrook, NSW

• Yavenvale Summit S695
