Top trending recipe on Google in 2023

Well, this really takes the crust. A surprising recipe dominated Google search chart in 2023 - check it out here and also see the recipes Aussies were most interested in cooking the past year.

Mini carbonara quiches

It’s that time of year, when the world’s most powerful search engine reveals (some of) its secrets. Namely, the trending queries of the year, the searches that had the highest spike in traffic over a sustained period in 2023, as compared to 2022.

But what was #1?

Coronation quiche: the #1 trending recipe search in Australia for 2023

Some of you might be surprised at this #1 rising search term, but we remember in the build-up to King Charles’ coronation in May, this kept popping up in Google Trends. This was because the King and Queen Camilla apparently chose quiche as the signature dish for the celebrations.

The official Royal Family website described the coronation quiche as a “deep quiche with a crisp, light pastry case and delicate flavours of spinach, broad beans and fresh tarragon”. It was designed by Royal chef Mark Flanagan and chosen because it was affordable, easy to make and could be eaten hot or cold.

The best coronation quiche recipe

We created our own interpretation of the coronation quiche that we think tastes even better than the real deal (we don’t know that because we weren’t actually invited to Buckingham Palace for the post-crowning celebrations).

The original was a larger more shareable quiche, but we know how much Aussies love mini quiches so decided to enlist Food Director Michelle Southan to create little individual versions. They were quick and easy to make and only require 7 ingredients – and the recipe has been popular with Aussie savoury bakers all year long.

Top with whipped cream to serve, if you know what’s good for you (or not).
