This recipe for perfect porridge needs amazing toppings
Porridge is a healthy breakfast recommended by nutritionists and dietitians, but it can be surprisingly difficult to master Here’s how to make a perfect breakfast and what to top it with.
To make the perfect bowl of porridge follow these easy steps.
Step 1: Combine oats, milk, water and salt in saucepan.
Step 2: Cook, stirring, until mixture thickens enough to coat spoon.
Step 3: Spoon into bowls and add topping.
Ideas for toppings
- Top porridge with 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 cup brown sugar. Drizzle with pouring cream.
- Top porridge with 1/3 cup vanilla yoghurt, 1/3 cup chopped pistachios and 1 tablespoon honey.
- Stir 2 grated granny smith apples into porridge after removing from heat. Sprinkle porridge with ground cinnamon or mixed spice to serve.
- Add 1/3 cup sultanas, 1/3 cup chopped dried apricots and 1/3 cup craisins to mixture at the start of step 1.
- Place 6 chopped rhubarb stalks in a roasting dish. Sprinkle with 1/3 cup brown sugar. Drizzle with 20g butter, melted, and 1/4cup cold water. Cover with foil and bake in a 190°C oven for 10 minutes or until soft. Top porridge with rhubarb mixture and sprinkle with toasted slivered almonds to serve.
